Sagitta's Theme Song: Downtown Heart

Background: Sagitta Weinberg was born and raised in Harlem, Manhattan, New York in a poor African-American family in a declining neighborhood. From a very young age she had been expected by all those who had any influence or power to come out a failure like the punks and gangsters and losers that littered the poor streets of New York. Sagitta, however, was NOT to be deterred. She held a great pride and fierce determination and every naysayer simply made her more willing to go the extra mile. She wanted to protect Harlem at all costs and elevate it from an underlooked burg to a national treasure. She swore to her friends that she would be their "Centaur" and ride into battle on their behalf in the court of law. She excelled in her studies, earned scholarships a black girl shouldn't have been able to earn in the first place, went to law school and became the first black, female American attorney. She managed to spring a loved one who had been in jail on false charges and she knew she had found her calling.

That wasn't all there was to Sagitta, though. Within her lied a wellspring of spiritual power that she had been unconsciously tapping in small amounts her whole life, a factor which surely helped her to get over the hurdles presented to her. This power also earned her entrance into the New York Kagekidan (Assault Troupe) Hoshigumi (Star Division). The name was kept in Japanese to honor the first Kagekidan, which belonged to Imperial Japan. The Kagekidan was responsible for the elimination of demonic and spiritual threats to the city, and did it's job well. Her powers manifested inherently in ways that were comfortable to her. She called on her conviction in the law and belief in justice to chain down her enemy and empower her blows with exorcismal might.

Somewhere along the way, though, she started to lose some of her Harlem spirit. The law became an obsession. Working within it and exploiting it's loopholes in order to achieve victory in court overrode her conscience at times, letting her simply believe that what she was doing was right because it was in the books. Her friends never forgot her, even upkeeping her motorcycle so she could ride it even though she gave it up once she passed the bar, and in her heart of hearts she loved all of them, but they began to fade into the background under the power and pressure of the courtroom.

The company Steam Frontier had plans to buy out Harlem and transform it into a beautiful shopping district. The contract was sound and Sagitta believed that she was helping Harlem raise itself up in her own way by defending the contract and SF from detractors and the locals, her friends and family and even her church. It took the new commander of the Kagekidan, a Japanese lad named Taiga Shinjiro, to convince Sagitta that Steam Frontier did not have the interests of the people in mind and were just vying for cheap land. Though she was torn, her conscience was saved when the director of the Kagekidan, a ridiculously rich man named Michael Sunnyside, bought Harlem out from under SF and acquired the contract from the city legally.

Thanks to Shinjiro, she was able to see what her pride and blind faith in the system would have cost her and regained some of that Harlem Spirit. Soon after she cemented herself firmly back in her roots when she had to defend her home against a Demon of absolute order and control who wished to crush the free spirit of the district under her heel. From that moment on she began to open up further to the other Kagekidan members and young Shinjiro, and went on to become an even greater, and more conscientious, warrior and lawyer. Now she fights for her own justice and a law by the people and for the people.

-Sagitta's powers manifest in the form of chains that she uses to bind her enemies and bring them to justice. The ability comes to her naturally, a power she calls the "Verdict Chain."
-She is both smart and strong, a capable barehanded street fighter thanks to a rough childhood and a master of the law as well.


Personality: Sagitta is a no-nonsense woman who demands to be taken seriously. She means everything she says and is uncompromising when it comes to upholding the law and exacting justice, especially when it's HER way. She has an exceptional will and doesn't break under pressure. She tends to take what is thrown at her with confidence and doesn't rush into anything foolishly, making her a level head in most dangerous situations. She does have some wildness in her as well, but it comes out at it's proper time and place, never to interfere with her work.

Her strengths also tend to be her weaknesses, however. Her pride is an important part of her, but it can override her prized qualities of judgment and composure. Her stubbornness can be ridiculous at times and her orderly nature puts people off as she seems very uptight at times. She leaves no room for ambiguity and can be blunt, and has a tendency to look at situation in black and white, right and wrong.

Still, she is a Harlem girl deep down. Her dedication, loyalty and trustworthiness have earned her many friends. She can always be counted on in a pinch, and never leaves anyone behind. That is part of her Justice.

Facts:

-One of her idiosyncrasies when speaking is the use of the sound "Kuh..." from the back of her throat when frustrated. She uses it a lot when cornered in a case or when facing a particularly powerful demon.
-Sagitta is a cat person, conversely she is afraid of dogs and runs from them even when they're being friendly.
-Her two primary spiritual attacks are Verdict Chain and Guilty Strike. She didn't exactly train to develop them, the techniques came to her naturally and then she named them as felt appropriate. Some spiritualists train in a supernatural martial art to focus their power, Sagitta's came to her on instinct stemming from her faith in order and justice.
-She is famous for crying out "I AM JUSTICE!" in the face of her enemies.

Item Lost: Her book of American law. It symbolizes the great strides she's made to become the pride of Harlem and she is never seen without it, normally...
